Hi everyone, Torchlight Services' Connect Program is back with another week of online activities! All of these are over Zoom, which you can download on your phone, computer, ipad, etc. Roughly 30 minutes before each program time, participants will be sent an email with the Zoom link. I've attached a poster of the schedule.🔥Monday, October 181:00pm-2:00pm: ScattergoriesA randomly selected letter is used for each round and participants have to fill out a list using the designated letter as the first letter of each word. 1 point is given for each answer, however if someone else has written the same word as you, neither of you get the point. For example, if the designated letter is K and the category is something you would find at Torchlight Services, an answer could be Kim. It will be helpful to have a pen and paper ready to go!4:00pm-5:00pm: Money WheelFor this event participants will randomly be divided into two teams where they will go head-to-head as they spin the money wheel! In Torchlight's version of The Wheel of Fortune, teams will attempt to guess letters within the mystery word/phrase to earn points. The team with the most points at the end wins!🔥Tuesday, October 191:00pm-2:00pm: Just DanceMissing Zumba classes and Just Dance at Torchlight? Join us as we follow along to some of your favourite Just Dance moves via JustDanceNow! Participants can download the Just Dance Now app to make their phone a controller. I would like to note that using the app is not at all a requirement, but it just might be a fun way to add some friendly competition. Everyone is also more than welcome to join and just enjoy the music, make up their own dance moves, remain seated and chat with friends, or just laugh along as staff try to keep up with the moves. Comfy clothes to move around and maybe sweat in are advised. Please email me if you have any specific song or dance requests! 4:30pm-5:30pm: Among UsAmong Us is a free game available via Google Play and on the App Store. Players are sorted to be crewmates or the imposter. The crewmates are responsible for completing tasks on the ship while the imposter tries to sabotage it and eliminate crewmates. The game is won by the crewmates when all tasks are completed and the imposter wins if they eliminate all the crewmates before the tasks are done. No extra materials are needed but some prefer to use one device for the Zoom call and another for Among Us.🔥Wednesday, October 2010:30am-11:30am: BingoTo play bingo online I'll be sending all participants bingo cards at the beginning of the program and using an online bingo number generator. If you or a participant you know would like to attend and receive bingo cards ahead of time to print off so selected letter/number combinations can be physically marked on the paper please email me. I will provide you with the links to printable versions of the cards to use. Bingo cards will still be provided to everyone who joins but by printing them off beforehand we can make things a little more similar to the in-person version :)4:30pm-5:30pm: YogaThis will be a beginner's yoga class with our friend Bre who is a certified yoga instructor. Clothing that is easy to move and stretch in and a soft surface to sit on is highly recommended (i.e. a pillow, blanket, carpet, towel, or exercise mat). Consent to be viewed by the instructor is assumed.🔥Thursday, October 2110:30am-11:30am: PresidentPlaying President:The object is to get points. Points are awarded for each round as follows:President ( first player who is out of cards) - 2 pointsVice President (second player who is out of cards - 1 point) The winner is the player with the most points when time runs out.To start a round:Cards are dealt one at a time until all cards have been dealt.The player with the 3 of clubs starts and must play that card. They may also play at the same time any other 3's they wish to play. Each player in turn must then either pass (not play any cards), or play a card or set of cards, which beats the previous play.Rank of cards: Lowest ----------------------------------------------------------------------->Highest 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 J Q K A 2Any higher single card beats a single card. The team with the most cash at the end of the rounds will win!6:30pm-7:30pm: Learn to DrawJoin us to watch drawing tutorials on YouTube together to learn to draw your favourite movie, tv and video game characters (feel free to send any requests). We typically follow the channel Cartooning Club How to Draw if you would like to check it out! Prior to each activity starting, an email will be sent to all participants who are registered in the monthly Connect Program with Zoom meeting details so that they can join in on the fun on time***🔥Monday, October 11Thanksgiving, enjoy the day off!***🔥Tuesday, October 123:00pm - 4:00pm: Name That SongThe first minute of a song will be played, when the music stops all participants who know either the artist or the song title should raise their hand. The staff will then choose one participant with their hand up. 1 point is awarded to each participant for every time they correctly guess the song title or the artist who made the song. This program is perfect for any music lover! It is also recommended to bring a pencil and paper to help record your score or even track names of new songs that you heard that you liked!6:00pm - 7:00pm: Family FeudTwo teams will face off as players attempt to guess the most popular answers to various survey based questions. The question was asked to 100 people, and points are awarded based on how many of the 100 people said the same answer the player gave. ***🔥Wednesday, October 133:30pm - 4:30pm: Matching GameIn this game participants will be split into teams where one at a time, they will flip two cards from a pile in hopes they find a match. If a match is found, the pair is removed from the pile and points are given to the team. The team with the most matches will be our winner. There will also be "trap cards" in the pile that will change the game drastically. Finding a trap card will have different results, some give teams extra points or an extra flip but there are also some cards that when found, will make the team lose points or even lose a turn. Be sure to check this game out to test your memory skills!6:30pm - 7:30pm: Heads UpTwo teams will face off in this game. In each 2 minute round, one player from each team will close their eyes while a list of words and photos will be shown. Without saying the words on the screen, participants must give clues as to what's on the screen so that the person with their eyes closed can guess what is on the screen. One point is awarded to the team for each correct answer said. While one team is going, the other team must remain quiet to allow the person with their eyes closed the best chance of hearing their teammates' clues***🔥Thursday, October 1410:30am - 11:30am: UNOPlay cards matching either the number or colour on top of the discard pile in an attempt to get rid of your cards first - BUT don't forget to say “UNO!” when down to your last card or you have to pick up more cards! 6:30pm - 7:30pm: Word GamesFor this week on Word Games, we will play two games where we have fun with letters! The first game will be Letter Scramble, where you are given a few random letters and you have to try to see how many words you can make using those given letters before the timer runs out. For example, if you were given the letters “ T,A,R,E,L,T”, you can make the words : "tart", "late", "let", "later", "rate". Points will be awarded for words made that have at least two letters, and only have letters within the word that were given to you. In the example above, you are not given any “P”s therefore you couldn’t make words like “Tarp” despite most of the letters given. We will also be playing hangman, where teams have to guess letters of the alphabet inorder to uncover the hidden phrase before it's too late!***🔥Friday, October 1510:30am - 11:30am: Learn To DrawBe sure to bring paper and pencils as we watch step by step tutorials on how to draw some of our favourite characters! 4:00pm - 5:00pm: DJ Night Join us for a virtual museum as we take a look at some of your favourite songs and learn about the artists! Everyone has the opportunity to introduce their favorite song (along with its music video) to their friends at Torchlight. The song can be from your favorite CD, album, YouTube video or concert you've been to. It can even be one of your all time favourite songs or one of your current favourite songs. In order for your song to be included in the museum, please send me an email with your song request by Thursday, October 14. Come and bust a move as we listen to some of our favourite dance songs! There is a "Just Dance Now" app that you can download onto your phone that after completing the tutorial, will allow you to join our game room during the Zoom meeting to connect to our game and will be awarded points for how closely you follow the dancers on the screen. This is a fun addition to the game, but not needed in order to have fun!4:00pm - 5:00pm: The Money WheelParticipants will be split into teams that will face off as they attempt to solve word puzzles that are covering letters within a phrase. Players will one at a time take a turn spinning the money wheel and guess a letter of the alphabet in order to help reveal more of the word puzzle and earn points.7:00pm - 9:00pm: Movie NightFor this week’s movie night we have three films to choose from to vote on, the movie that receives the most votes will be the one we end up watching. The movie choices for this week are: Frozen 2, Happy Feet 2, and The Land Before Time 3: The Great Giving. The winning movie will be announced at 6:30pm on Monday!***🔥Tuesday, October 53:00pm - 4:00pm: Crazy 8’sThis virtual card game will be played over Zoom. A link to the gameroom will also be sent out within the email including the Zoom meeting details. In this game you must use the cards in your hand to try to match the card on the top of the pile either by suit (heart, diamond, club, spade) or by number (if a 6 of hearts is on top, you can play any card that is a 6 or a heart in your hand). The object is to get rid of your cards as soon as you can! It is very similar to UNO, you can play a card that has an 8 on it in order to change the suit to whatever you want (a helpful hint is to change the suit to the one that is most common in your hand of cards). You can also lay a card that has a 2 on it to make the next person pick up 2 extra cards! 6:00pm - 7:00pm: Matching GameIn this game participants will be split into teams where one at a time, they will flip two cards from a pile in hopes they find a match. Printing out the bingo cards will allow the participants to use counters, pencils or even bingo dabbers to mark their cards if materials are around the house.3:30pm - 4:30pm: PresidentFor this virtual card game, players are dealt cards one at a time. Then we’ll play the ABC Game where you are given a letter that will be used as the first letter to each answer of the following: 2 names, 1 location, 1 object. With these answers we will create another short story. For example if my given letter was “L”, in order to complete the phrase I could say “Hi my name is Luca, my partner’s name is Lucy, we live in Liverpool where we sell lollipops!”, then the next person would have the letter “K” try to complete the phrase again - “Hi my name is Kenzie, my partner’s name is Kayla, we live in Kitchener where we sell kites!”6:30pm - 7:30pm: Museum of InterestsEveryone has the opportunity to request topics they’re interested in or that they want others to learn about, similar to requesting and learning about songs for DJ Night. You can be as broad or as specific as you want with your requests. Some examples could be The Great Barrier Reef, Dinosaurs or the history of the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is a great opportunity to learn something new and share with each other what we’re interested in! Send in an email of a topic you are interested in learning more about.***🔥Friday, October 84:30pm - 5:30pm: Tic Tac TorchFor this trivia game, participants will be shown a 3 x 3 grid with various categories. Two teams will face off as players will choose a category shown on the gameboard and will be asked a related question. If the player is correct, their team logo is thrown on the 3 x 3 grid where the category was originally and is awarded 1 point. Teams can also try to get three of their logos in a row on the 3 x 3 grid in order to score 5 extra points. The team with the most points or most logos on the game board will win!7:00pm - 8:00pm: KahootKahoot is an online trivia game that allows players to use their mobile devices as the controller for the game. You can do this by downloading the Kahoot app from your mobile devices’ app store and typing in the game room pin that will be given out during the Zoom meeting. This game awards players for fast and correct answers, two players could end up with the same amount of correct answers but one will have more points if they chose their answer fast. Hey there, We are once again very excited to release this week's schedule of online fun! All of these activities will run on Zoom, a video chatting application that will allow us to communicate despite our distance. An email with all of the Zoom meeting details will be sent out at least 30 minutes prior to each session so you have enough time to get into the meeting. Here are the descriptions of the activities offered online this week: 🔥Monday, September 2710:00am - 11:00am: Name That SongThe first minute of a song will be played, when the music stops all participants who know either the artist or the song title should raise their hand. Come out to relax and feel a nice stretch***🔥Friday, October 110:30am - 11:30am: Heads UpTwo teams will face off in this game.
