Hey there,This week we have many fun activities offered with Torchlight Services' Connect Program! This is a monthly program that when registered, allows for full access to daily online activities. All of these activities will run with the help of Zoom a video chatting application that will allow us to communicate despite our distance. 30 minutes prior to the activity starting, a Zoom meeting link will be emailed to all participants who are registered to allow them to join in on the fun! Here is a breakdown of all of the programs we are offering for this week: 🔥Monday, September 1310:00am - 11:00am: Name That SongThe first minute of a song will be played, when the music stops all participants who know either the artist or the song title should raise their hand. The staff will then choose one participant with their hand up. 1 point is awarded to each participant for every time they correctly guess the song title or the artist who made the song. This program is perfect for any music lover! It is also recommended to bring a pencil and paper to help record your score or even track names of new songs that you heard that you liked!4:30pm - 5:30pm: Almost PictionaryParticipants will be split into teams with a staff member. For each 2 minute round, the staff member on your team will be sent a list of 4 objects and will then have to draw the items found on their list. Their teammates must attempt to guess what each drawing is in order to score points before the timer is up. 1 point is awarded to teams for each item correctly guessed that appears on the list.*** 🔥Tuesday, September 1410:30am - 11:30am: Family Feud Two teams will face off in this survey based game. Players will attempt to guess the most popular answers to various survey questions answered by 100 people! Teams will earn points based on how many people out of 100 also said your answer.4:30pm - 5:30pm: Matching GameIn this game participants will be split into teams where one at a time, they will flip two cards from a pile in hopes they find a match. If a match is found, the pair is removed from the pile and points are given to the team. The team with the most matches will be our winner. There will also be "trap cards" in the pile that will change the game drastically. Finding a trap card will have different results, some give teams extra points or an extra flip but there are also some cards that when found, will make the team lose points or even lose a turn. Be sure to check this game out to test your memory skills!*** 🔥Wednesday, September 152:00pm - 3:00pm: President Virtual Card GameFor this virtual card game, players are dealt cards one at a time. The player who has the 3 of clubs starts and will play that card. The next player would have to play a card higher than 3 but if they don't have that, then they pass and the next person will go. Rank of cards: Lowest-------------------------------------------------------->Highest3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 J Q K A 2 When the highest card is played and no one can play a card that turn will end, and the person that played the highest card can lay any card or pairs of cards they want. If a player starts a turn by placing 2 Queens, the next player would have to place 2 cards that are the same and are higher than a Queen (King, Ace, 2). The first person to play all of their cards will receive 2 points and will be "elected" President, the second person to play all of their cards will be named Vice-President and is awarded 1 point. After that, all the cards are shuffled and re-dealt for a new round. 6:00pm - 7:00pm: Word GamesJoin us for a few different word games that will test your skills! For example, we will be playing games like Hangman and Letter Scramble. In Letter Scramble, participants will be given a few letters from the alphabet chosen at random. For example T,A,R,E,L,T. You will have a certain amount of time to come up with as many words as possible with at least two letters using only the ones given. In this example with the letters given you can make the words: "tart", "late", "let", "later", "rate". ***🔥Thursday, September 1610:30am - 11:30am: DJ MorningDo you have a favourite song or favourite artist you want to show off to your Torchlight friends? Be sure to email song suggestions so that I can add it to our presentation. This is where we will take a look through a virtual museum to listen to the suggested songs and learn some fun facts about the artists while we're at it too! 6:00pm - 7:00pm: Crazy 8'sWe will virtually play Crazy 8's, a card game very similar to Uno, in which you must use the cards in your hand to try to match the card on the top of the pile either by matching suit (heart, diamond, club, spade) or by number (if a 6 of hearts is on top, you can play any card that is a 6 or a heart in your hand). The object is to get rid of your cards as soon as you can! *** 🔥Friday, September 171:00pm - 2:00pm: Just DanceGrab some water and join us for our Just Dance Party! Come and bust a move as we listen to some of our favourite dance songs! There is a "Just Dance Now" app that you can download onto your phone that after completing the tutorial, will allow you to join our game room during the Zoom meeting to connect to our game and will be awarded points for how closely you follow the dancers on the screen. This is a fun addition to the game, but not needed in order to have fun!4:00pm - 5:00pm: Tic Tac TorchFor this trivia game, participants will be shown a 3 x 3 grid with various categories. Two teams will face off as players will choose a category shown on the game board and will be asked a related question. If the player is correct, their team logo is thrown on the 3 x 3 grid where the category was originally and is awarded 1 point. Teams can also try to get three of their logos in a row on the 3 x 3 grid in order to score 5 extra points. Hello there!We are back at it again with another week full of online activities with Torchlight Services' Connect Program! All of these activities will run with the help of Zoom, a web chatting application that will allow us to communicate despite our distance! Zoom must be downloaded onto either your laptop or tablet in order to join us for these fun activities.Here is a breakdown of all of the activities we will be running this week:🔥 Monday, September 6:Labour DayNo online programs will be held on this day***🔥Tuesday, September 710:30am - 11:30am: BingoAt the start of the meeting, links to virtual bingo cards will be sent to participants where they can tap on the bingo card to virtually mark their cards. If a participant would like to be sent a link so that the bingo cards can be printed out, email me back prior to the program starting and I will send you the link to the bingo cards to print out. Printing out the bingo cards will allow the participants to use counters, pencils or even bingo dabbers to mark their cards if materials are around the house.4:30pm - 5:30pm: Matching GameIn this game participants will be split into teams where one at a time they will flip two cards from a pile in hopes they find a match. For example if the random letter given was "S" and the prompt was to name a zoo animal, possible answers could be "salamander", "scorpion", "seal", "sheep" or even "sea slug" for double points. It is definitely recommended to bring paper and pencils with you for this meeting to help keep track of your answers as well as points.4:30pm - 5:30pm: KahootKahoot is an online trivia game that allows players to use their phone as a controller for the game! Kahoot awards players points for fast and correct answers. The player with the most points will be our winner.***🔥 Thursday, September 94:00pm - 5:00pm: Tic Tac TorchFor this trivia game, participants will be shown a 3 x 3 grid with various categories. In this game, there are two rounds, in the first players will be shown a game board with white spaces, slowly letters will reveal a phrase and participants must guess what the mystery words are. The next round players are shown a game board with a phrase that has its letters blocked off by blue squares, players will one at a time spin the money wheel and guess a letter that they think could be in the hidden phrase to earn points. Hi everyone,We're so excited to start another week of programming with our new facilitator Madeline! Please note that our movie choices are below on Monday at 7pm. Here's what we have planned for the week:Monday August 30th10:30-11:30am : Scattergories A randomly selected letter is used for each round and participants have to fill out a list using the designated letter as the first letter of each word. 1 point is given for each answer, however if someone else has written the same word as you, neither of you get the point. For example, if the designated letter is K and the category is something you would find at Torchlight Services, an answer could be Kim. It will be helpful to have a pen and paper ready to go!1:00-2:00pm : Bingo To play bingo online I'll be sending all participants bingo cards at the beginning of the program and using an online bingo number generator. If you or a participant you know would like to attend and receive bingo cards ahead of time to print off so selected letter/number combinations can be physically marked on the paper please email me at jcowan06@uoguelph.ca. I will provide you with the links to printable versions of the cards to use. They may also play at the same time any other 3's they wish to play. Participants will compete in 2 teams and work together to earn the most points. The overall structure will be similar to the popular game show. No additional materials are required, just hop on zoom ready to have fun!Wednesday September 1st10:30-11:30am : Matching GameParticipants will get the opportunity to work on their memory in this skill-testing game! They will virtually pick two cards to flip over in the hope that they match and their team gets a point for each card.1:00-2:00pm : Word Games Join us as we play a variety of word games! First we will use random nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs in order to tell a story. Then we'll play the ABC game where each participant is given a letter and they must give 2 names, 1 location and 1 object that all start with the assigned letter in order to tell a short story!4:30-5:30pm : The Money WheelFor this event participants will randomly be divided into two teams where they will go head-to-head as they spin the money wheel! In Torchlight's version of The Wheel of Fortune, teams will attempt to guess letters within the mystery word/phrase to earn points. The team with the most points at the end wins!Thursday September 210:30-11:30am: Almost PictionaryIn our version of Pictionary, participants will be divided into small teams that are paired with a Torchlight staff member. In each 2 minute round, staff will be given a list of words and will use the Zoom whiteboard to draw out the items on the list. Using only pictures drawn by the staff on their team, participants will try to guess as many of the drawings they can. While a team is completing their round, other staff and participants must remain quiet. The team that can guess the most drawings will win!1:00-2:00pm: Among UsAmong Us is a free game available via Google Play and on the App Store. Players are sorted to be crewmates or the imposter. The crewmates are responsible for completing tasks on the ship while the imposter tries to sabotage it and eliminate crewmates. The game is won by the crewmates when all tasks are completed and the imposter wins if they eliminate all the crewmates before the tasks are done. No extra materials are needed but some prefer to use one device for the Zoom call and another for Among Us.4:30-5:30pm: Fill in the BlanksFor this game teams will be shown a phrase with a blank spot in the sentence, then shown a list of the most popular answers but only the first letter is revealed, the rest of the word is hidden. The first team to go will have 1 minute to guess what each answer is. 1 player will say an answer and if correct will go again, if incorrect the next teammate will go. Once the time is up the other team will have a chance to answer the remaining. 50 points are awarded for every correct answer.For example a game round might look like this:"My favourite DC super hero is _____"and participants will be shown a game board with a list of words with only the first letter revealed."W______ W_____" , "C________" , "F______", and "G____ L_____" .And possible answers could be: Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Flash, Green LanternFriday September 310:30-11:30am: KahootKahoot is an online trivia platform, you will need a device with access to the Kahoot website where we will test our knowledge on a variety of trivia topics (feel free to send us some fun topic suggestions)! The participant with the most correct answers will win. While Kahoot can be played on the same device as the Zoom call, some people prefer to have one device (such as their phone or tablet) for the Kahoot Quiz and another for the Zoom call. 1:00-2:00pm: DJ AfternoonEveryone will get an opportunity to introduce their favorite song (along with its music video) to their friends at Torchlight. The song can be from your favorite CD, album, YouTube video or concert you've been to. It can be one of your all time favourite songs or one of your current favourite songs. If you have your own song that you would like to share and/or perform that's awesome too! You get 1 minute to introduce your favorite song and explain why it is your favorite or share some interesting trivia. Please email song/video choices to Kaden4:30-5:30pm: Just Dance PartyMissing Zumba classes and Just Dance at Torchlight? Join us as we follow along to some of your favourite Just Dance moves via JustDanceNow! Participants can download the Just Dance Now app to make their phone a controller. I would like to note that using the app is not at all a requirement, but it just might be a fun way to add some friendly competition. Everyone is also more than welcome to join and just enjoy the music, make up their own dance moves, remain seated and chat with friends, or just laugh along as staff try to keep up with the moves.
