“My interest in developmentally delayed and handicapped persons stems from my childhood.  My brother (five years younger) was developmentally delayed.  At that time there were no supports or schooling to meet the needs of those individuals.  When what is now Community Living was formed, my parents were among the founding members and on the executive and I helped with fund raising.  I worked in various offices in the public school system.  In 1989, a former Torchlight Board member whom I met when he was a TMH teacher at the Brighton Education Centre asked me to join the Torchlight Board.  I was very happy to do so and I am still serving to help those in our community who need the life skills, connection and personal supports provided by Torchlight

Diane’s interest in developmentally delayed and handicapped persons stems from her childhood. Her younger brother was developmentally delayed. At that time there were no supports or schooling to meet the needs of those individuals. Her parents were among the founding members and on the executive of what is now Community Living and Diane helped with fundraising efforts.  Diane has volunteered her time with many other community organizations over the years including the Canadian Cancer Society, Knox Presbyterian Church and Guelph Country Club Board. In her professional life she worked in various offices in the public school system, retiring as a Statistical Assistant in the Planning Department for Upper Grand District School Board. When asked to lend her talents and serve on the Board of Torchlight in 1989, she was very happy to do so. She continues to serve today because she feels it is important to help those in our community who need the life skills, connections and personal supports provided by Torchlight.
